It is the start of the new year for the Village. The Village has new board officers, and a new goal to plan ahead for all the new people to come. We worked hard on getting our new bathroom and showers built. The plans are done and ok'd by the City. The city wants us to pay 16,000.00 building fees to build the bathrooms at the village. Now this also includes a new office which is twice the size of our Common area now. A new kitchen which will go a long way in cooking food for others , who have nothing. This was the total for the three buildings to be built. I know this is a lot of money for homeless people to raise but, the Village has a lot of supporters that when faced with a goal , have meet that goal and then some.
The for Fathers of Dignity Village had a vision of what they expected the Village to be like. Today the Village tries to expand the vision to a more realistic look and maintain a sustainable way of living. There main goal is to be able to have there own land, and to build and expand the village to reach out to helping more of the homeless that still live on the streets, in the surrounding area. We welcome everyone that would love to help out and work with us , to join us. Our goal this spring is to raise the money to get the bathrooms up. Having worked with many of the work groups and groups of people that have just come out to see the village first hand , and the all the volunteers that came to help work around the village last year, a big Thank you to everyone. Your hard work and efforts have helped homeless people that were on the streets to have a place they can feel warm and safe. The village is there stepping stone to changing of there lives from living on the streets , to helping them return to a normal way of living. We are planing to have an Easter Bazaar like our Holiday bazaar we had last Dec 5-6th 2009. It was a hit. The village raised all most 800.00 for the two day event, to help with the bills. If you can help out, with any amount ,this would be very helpful Thanks . I had a group of kids ( about a 11 of them ) ask me one day what they could to help out. I told them to have a bake sale, car wash, or anything like that. A month later Dignity Village gets a check for $1,900.00 raised by the same group of Kids. Way to go ! They were from Texas, visiting Portland and had stopped by. It goes to show you things happen for reasons which we sometimes don't understand. Thank you everyone.

Welcome to Dignity Village's website. We had a wonderful summer. We had a ton of people visiting us here, and helping out with some of the building projects. We got a few things done and are just finishing up with finishing the inside of the commons building. ( sheet-rock , mud and tape ) That has been a long road to getting that work done. We have started a few micro bussiness to help support ourselfs here at the Village. We had yard sales and stuff like that over the Summer. As we face the winter months, with the cold weather we rely on your support to see that we can offer a warm place for other homeless people out there,with over night stays and with your warm gift of giving we know that we will be here to provide this service to the homeless people outside the village. Now that all that was said , I want to let everyone know that we are having a Christmas Bazaar

We will have tables and tables of stuff. We will have Door prizes, and a grand prize, and a bake sale of Cookies, Cakes, and Coffee etc, just to let some of the fun out Come on out and support the Village . Have a tour, may your Holidays be carefull and we will see you at our Bazaar.

A Long an waited update for the Village website. We are still here. We made it through another winter of snow.
We have added 20 new raised garden beds, full of all kind of plants . We have had over 600, Students come out to the village since Jan.2009 from all over the Northwest.They helped build planter boxes, and painted a few buildings. We want to thank all of them for all there hard work.
We have also have set up our yard sale, ( it helps pay our bills) so come on out and have a peek every sunshine day during the month of Aug. and Sept. during the weekdays only from 12 pm to 6 pm. I am sure you will find something you can use.
We are also going to build new Bathrooms some time in Aug. 2009. They will be a combo of shower and toilets, plus a meeting room for guess that come out to visit and want talk, for a bit on bad weather days. We want to say Thank you suporters, your warm friendly faces, have changed lives. We are also having a 2010 Dignity Village calender printed which many of you folks may have heard about in the last few months. They will be for sale Next month if all goes on track. Ask Joe ( the tour guide person ) for more info on getting one for your self. Come on out in person , sit and talk , We love to chat. See the Village for yourself. Dignity Village would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season. We are kicking off our campaign for new board officers, again Dec 16 2008. Every year on Dec.16 we elect new Board officers to operate the Village for the coming new year.
We have been busy working on our common area building. We installed a new floor, a little over a month a go from a donation from Budget Computers in Beaverton Or.
We also started wiring the Common area building for Electric. We will have to have it insulated and sheet rocked prior to us using it after it is wired. We are required by the building code to insulate it with R 28 insulation to meet code. We will also be in need of 1/2 inch 4 x 8 sheets of sheet rock.
We have also had many calls to the Village as to what the village needed. Our biggest need would be a donation of money to help get our bills paid. Any donation would be grateful.
Everyone has felt the high gas prices , the high cost of food, and the many job lay off's in the community. Our efforts for being self efficient to pay our bills over the past 9 months have fallen short . If you would like to donate to help out you may bring it out in person, mail it to us or use our donate link in the menu. We would like to thank you in advance for your donations.
We also have our new Kitchen plans, new bathrooms plans ready for the coming new year, to better server the community. We have come along way from tents set up on pallets , to small houses and structures that we have today.
 We have had visitors from all over the world since we been here at the Sunderland yard from 2001 to 2008. We have been a model community for others who see the helping need that our village offers to the homeless people in the community. This has only happened because of all the wonderful support so many have given to us over the past 8 years. Many more community's across the country, have looked to us for answers to help the homeless population that is growing bigger each year. When People come out to visit us , they are amazed at what we have set up and how we help the 50 to 60 homeless people that live here at any given time, a stepping stone effect that gives each person living here a chance to help themselves regain a new start to gain main stream living again.
All of this comes from donations from viewers and visitors that help to support our goals. Once again Happy Holidays from all of us at Dignity Village. Please feel free to come out and visit us.

We had a good summer here at the Village. There was nearly 500 visitors that came out to see us and over afew hundred that came out to help us around the village.
We transformed 16 tarped decks into 16 structures with 4 wood walls and a roof , with the help of Agape church, and our local fire inspector, all in one day 150 people worked together to make it happen.
Our common area building now has siding on it. We will be installing a real floor in the next week. We are going to finish the inside of the building this year.
We want to thank everyone, who has continued to support us with Donations,. even as the economy , and highers prices for everything has hindered everyones pockets.
We have painted a new cheerful design , in the center of the Village. Most all that see it likes it.

Dignity Village launched it's new Hot Dog cart at the Hollywood theatre last Thursday. Dignity Dog's was in Business! The turn out was great! People were talking about how good they tasted. Some even had seconds just because they were so good.
A listing of where it is going to be setup next, will be posted on the web site, so that you may try one for yourself.
Dignity Village Hot Dog cart will be Located at 4th & Burnside May 30th to June 8th from 10 am to 9 pm
